The gracious main house of Gorah Elephant Lodge, built in 1856, has been immaculately restored and period furnished, recalling the opulence and romance of the orignal safari era. Ten luxury tented suites boast comfy king-size beds, his and hers vanities and spacious double showers.
Each suite has its own veranda to watch Elephants and Buffalo wander by. Personalised, warm and unobtrusive service with meticulous attention to detail, are the hallmarks of Hunter’s properties, which are owned and managed by the Hunter family.
The lodge has two main dining rooms and dinner is by candlelight or some meals are taken around the fire in the open-air boma or on verandas overlooking the waterhole. Two cosy lounges have original fireplaces for cold winter nights and there is a library featuring reference books on the area and its wildlife. Sun lovers can always find a sunny spot by the rock pool or on various sun decks and patios.
At Gorah you get the thrill of close up elephant encounters - arguably the best in South Africa - and the chance of seeing black rhino, herds of Cape buffalo, numerous antelope species and a wealth of bird life.
