Gorah Elephant Lodge is situated within the 14,000 hectares of Addo Elephant Park, 65km (35 miles) north of Port Elizabeth on the Eastern Cape coast, which is considered to be the start or finish of the Garden Route. This makes it one of the nearest game lodges to Cape Town to have the 'Big Five', with considerable numbers of elephants, buffalo and even some black rhino and lion.
Addo is an area of undulating indigenous bush in the Sunday's River Valley. The park was proclaimed in 1931 to preserve the last survivors the once numerous herds of elephants in the Eastern Cape, and has recently expanded to take over farmland all the way to the sea.
The Hunter Family has a distinguished history of owning and running exclusive lodges, and during a trip along the Garden Route, you may wish to take advantage of one of their other properties. Hunter's Country House - a traditional colonial country house with garden suites and fine dining, or the fabulous Tsala Tree Lodge with raised walkways, exclusive suites, private plunge pools and views over the treetops. These two lodges are situated close to each other between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay.
