At this safari lodge in Eastern Cape, guests can choose from a variety of affordable luxury accommodation. The River Lodge has 11 en-suite rooms, including a Honeymoon suite with Jacuzzi, there are three 2 bedroom chalets and also Huberta Lodge, which has 6 en-suite rooms. The Mpongo Game Reserve has beautiful scenery and lush landscapes.
Conference delegates, wedding couples, and holidaymakers can relax at Mpongo as it is located in a malaria free zone. The lodge has great activities including day and night safari game drives. There are a number of waterholes on the Reserve and birdlife is excellent. Knowledgeable guides are experienced and the eco-tourist will find out interesting facts and information.
Open vehicle game drives during the day stop for a refreshment and picnic break and usually take about 2 3 hours. Game animals that can be seen include Buffalo, Lion, Elephant and Rhino, also Hippo and Giraffe. Mpongo Game Reserve is a birder friendly establishment and many different species can be observed. Night drives are also offered as a variety of nocturnal game can be seen.
Stylish Huberta Restaurant with subtle Xhosa decor is built around a waterhole with large viewing windows; guests can savour the blend of European and African cuisine while watching the Hippos which tend to linger by the water. More great service and hospitality can be experienced in the Buffalo Lapa (outdoor enclosure). Guests here can relax by the open fire and enjoy African dishes like potjie a type of tasty stew cooked over the fire in iron pots.
Mpongo River Lodge has excellent banqueting and conference facilities; this is also a popular wedding venue. There are 2 attractive air-conditioned thatched halls each seating up to 80 people or 160 at one time. Small or large events are handled with ease and equipment is available. Other outdoor venues can be arranged for informal sessions.
